I got behind the decks at 13. I am 29 now, over a thousand nights in, and every one taught me the same thing: the music is the easy part, reading the room is the job. That is what fills a floor and keeps it full when the standard DJ has long cleared it.
And you get me. The same face from the first chat to the last song, set up early, calm on the night, and genuinely bothered about whether your lot are dancing. Not a stranger who turns up at seven.
